Our Oubangui River Boat Ride!

Fruits and Vegetables

A couple of ladies who were selling the fruits and vegetables

Hippo Horray!

WOW, what an adventure! On Saturday April 4th, we had the opportunity to take a river boat ride up the Oubangui River, which is located along the city of Bangui. The day was perfect, with some cloud cover and a little breeze to keep cool. Our mission that day....was to find a hippopotamus! And we did (actually we did find two, the other one just isn't pictured here)! There were two that we had the chance to see and to get really good photos of. They were not very pleased with us though, invading their territory mind you. Once our boat had been getting a little too close for their liking, they both began to swim.....quickly, I might add, towards the boat!

After we had the chance to see the hippo's our boat guides moved along further up river. Our boat guides located a nice little beach along the river where stopped to enjoy: a delicious picnic lunch, swimming and a whole lot of time of relaxation!

During our time along the beach, there were a couple of ladies who were selling fruits and vegatables (picture above). In the top picture is a a great big bowl of: bread fruit, papayas, avacodos and a stalk of bananas. In the second picture, the great big bowl on the left is filled with mangos (my personal favorite!).
The common way that you will see ladies carry these fruits and vegatables to sell, is with these great big bowls that they place upon their heads. You will see these ladies walking up and down many of the streets in Bangui. We also have a very dear lady who every Monday, Wednesday and Friday arrives at our doorstep around 6:30 AM to ask if we would like to buy any fruits/veggies that day.
